I almost FAINTED after I clicked on Gallery. What the heck is that???????????????

My totally non-scientific guess is that it is the emerging root of some plant. That, or Clay Aiken’s hair follicle.
In a search for protein crystallization kits, I stumbled across this gallery of protein crystals. Using X-ray diffraction of these crystals, some crazy biochemists can figure out what the protein structure looks like. (Don’t ask me how.)
