I Had a Silly Day

The big project I’ve been working on for a couple of months now is winding down, and I found myself with a little free time today after I did some stuff in the morning.

Things got silly.

Preparations for the Royal Visit

Preparations for the Royal Visit II and III

Since then I’ve been for a walk, tested my new-to-me and gloriously obsolete camera, and engaged in bit of a customer service wrangling. Oh—and eaten an additional slice of cheesy bread. A classic Friday.

Meet Shelley

Shelley: Pedal to the Metal Shelley: Frame Up
Shelley: Get in Gear Shelly: Sit Down

Shelley is the first bike I have ever bought for myself, and also the first bike I’ve ever owned (barring those with training wheels) that I actually sit comfortably on without having to stretch my legs to pedal. She has sexy skinny tires, a few well-earned scars, and she’s the prettiest shade of blue this side of Lake Michigan. (The cerulean Lake Michigan itself, to which we rode this afternoon, has Shelley beat on beautiful spring days like today.) So say hi, everyone. Shelley’s a keeper. And let me know if you want to go riding with me someday soon.

P.S. 1,000,000 predatory nematodes are on their way.

P.P.S. Two site changes: I turned the Audio page into an About page, since I didn’t seem to be using the former very much, and I have a new and improved spam killer. If you’ve ever tried to leave me a comment and wondered why it never appeared, the old spam killer is why. The new one won’t require any extra effort on your part, but should allow me to actually see your comment and approve it (if it’s your first one and needs approving). That is all. I expect to be inundated with new commenters, mind, and shall be disappointed if you do not pontificate.

Indoor Gardening is Fascinating

We’ve had tiny little things flitting around and crawling on the soil of all our plants for a while now, and today the Internet finally told me what they are: fungus gnats. Lovely name, no? Apparently once you see them flying about they’re pretty harmless, but the larvae that live in the soil can do damage to the roots. There are several ways to get rid of them, many of which are easy (dry out the soil of your plants until the bugs are all dead) and some of which involve slightly more investment but sound awesome. The remedy I most wish to try is the use of so-called “predatory nematodes” to eat the gnat larvae.

Predatory nematodes. I never thought I’d have cause to walk into a store and ask for some of those.

Sometimes You Knock Yourself Out

Damn it. I wasted several hours of my life writing something I shouldn’t have because my original assignment from a client changed. And I knew that, but the miracle of Gmail’s threading system caused the change to hide inside a different part of the email conversation than the one I was looking at a few days ago, when I was deciding what I should work on next.

the most flattering vantage point possible

Sigh. I’m a big dork who’s going back to the drawing board. But in the meantime, if you need to know something about the Prime Minister of New Zealand, I’m your girl.
