Presidential Debates Make Me Drunk
I ended up watching tonight’s debate at a friend’s house, on an actual television set instead of a computer (how novel), all the while drinking copious amounts of gin and ginger ale to help me swallow the posturing, prevarications, and constipated looks of superiority—which, frankly, came from both sides, though of course I was more annoyed by one source than the other.
Politics drives me fucking nuts.
That is all. I’m off to eat some cheese, now. What, you don’t think that’ll help?

It was pretty annoying. I think the VP debate will be much more entertaining.
I watched it with my friend Ben, who was struck by McCain’s frequent references to needing to protect Israel from Iran. Ben called this “Jew-baiting” and saw it as a blatant attemtp to lure Jewish voters, specifically in Florida, away from Obama. None of the commentators I saw mentioned this.
I didn’t think Obama came on as strong as he should have, especially to defend himself against McCain’s many attacks early on ($932 million–or was it billion?–spent recklessly, etc).
I found it creepy how McCain’s voice and his laugh have come to sound more and more like GW Bush’s over the years…

McCain is absolutely courting the Jewish vote — and he might get a lot of it, too. Many people are really upset about Obama’s willingness to sit down with Iran.
I thought they were both fairly thoughtful and prepared, but I wasn’t particularly blown away by either of them, and I can’t imagine the debate changing many people’s minds.
