It is - I find anyway - richer to write for yourself as well as others, and although we will miss DBP, best wishes for your new work. (Since I haven't updated mine in recent weeks - I should talk.)

I knew you would be sad, and I wavered for a long time, but that's part of it, actually -- I realized that I wasn't writing for myself here anymore.

I may come back to this someday, but for now, I'm done. Enjoy the photos with your new eyes, and don't forget I'm still posting on my Flickr account (albeit without my DSLR!).

The last month or so has passed by in a bit of a blur for me, no pun intended although it is probably due to my eye operation. I have not had any inkling that "Distances Between Ports" is being retired and I must say that I am saddened by the thought.
I thank you for all the wonderful writings that I have read and reread many times. Also for the many photgraphs with their associated links that will remain in my memory for a long long time. Like the picture of Jordan against a very deep black background, which reminds me of your wedding and Boston; the street scene form Barcelona that reminds me of a Paul Klee painting, and the picture of two Ms sitting of a bar stool facing ech other, in front of the red upholstered sofabed, which makes me ask myself, "Will the real M stand up please."
I am now capable of a second round of joy from the pictures for the colours are more rich and real when looked at with my new lens.
Needless to say, I will also follow you in your new life as the science essayist.

Congrats on your new blog. The Essay is a poetry... where art, science and heart are strongly connected. I'll follow you through even if Distances Between Ports will be missed. Thanks for sharing all this.
